Oktoberfest

October 23, 2016

We headed downtown today in the hope of finding a good stein-clinking Oktoberfest celebration with a bevy of sausages and pretzel stalls.

The Oktoberfest at Pershing Square was a bit of a let down but it did get us excited for our trip to Vienna, Nuremberg and Prague later this year.  Nothing makes us happier than sausage-and-schnitzel-and-pretzel spots on every corner.  In the meantime, here are a few of our favorite recipes to celebrate Oktoberfest in your home kitchen.

German Pretzel: Gather for Bread

Golden and soft these pretzel sticks are a tad sweet , golden brown and delicious.  With a good spicy German mustard these are everything.

Braised Bratwurst and Caramelized Sauerkraut: Chaos in the Kitchen

A gourmet twist on the traditional Bratwurst sandwich you typically find at Oktoberfest celebrations.

Mulled Wine: Buzzfeed

Mulled Wine Is The Most Soul-Warmingly Delicious Drink Ever

German Apple Pie Cake: Martha Stewart

A cross between pie and a fruit crisp, this dramatic dessert is made with just six common ingredients.
