Cinco de Mayo Dinner Party Recipes, Part 4 – The Best Authentic Margarita Recipe

May 5, 2016

No fajita night would be complete without a margarita. In fact, you could just have margarita night with fajitas on the side.

Like guacamole, there are so many different takes and opinions on margaritas. Again, we went back to the basics:

1 oz Cointreau (you could use another triple sec or orange liqueur, but why skimp)

¾ oz fresh lime juice (did we mention fresh?)

2 oz 100% blue agave tequila (choose silver for a lighter, cleaner margarita or reposado for a richer, more mellow flavor)

Agave nectar to taste (Jessica likes her a little sweet, Joe Bob prefers no agave)

Ice

Lime wedges

Salt

Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a margarita or martini glass focusing on the outside of the rim. Roll the rim of the glass on a dish of salt trying to keep the salt on the outside of the rim (you don’t want salt to fall into the margarita).  We like a touch of Tajin mixed in with the salt.

Put the other ingredients in a shaker and shake it like you mean it. Then strain into the salt-rimmed glass, garnish with a lime wedge, and enjoy…one, two, three or more!
